What is a somatic exercise?
Body-based practices that help release stored stress and tension — and a core part of coaching at Apex NeuroCare.
Somatic exercises are body-based practices that help release stored trauma, stress, and tension held in the nervous system. Rather than processing experiences solely through talk or cognitive approaches, somatic work engages the body directly — working with the same pathways where stress is stored. These gentle, guided movements and awareness practices help restore the body's natural capacity for self-regulation and ease.
Why they help
Somatic exercises offer cues of safety and support to our nervous system. They can also help address stuck patterns and stored stress in the body. By listening to the body, we can follow its impulses to complete cycles and allow shifts and change to occur. We can trust the wisdom of the body to safely guide this process.
How somatic work fits into coaching
At Apex NeuroCare, somatic exercises are woven directly into trauma-informed nervous system coaching. In a typical session we begin with safety and regulation, build awareness of your inner world, work with what's present in the body right now, and gently process and integrate using somatic parts work and felt-sense awareness — all at a pace that feels safe.
