The connection

How migraine, headaches, and the nervous system are connected

Start here: a new, sudden, or severe headache, a headache after a blow to the head, or one with fever, stiff neck, vision changes, weakness, or confusion needs medical evaluation right away. If your headache pattern has changed, talk with your physician first. We work alongside medical care, never in place of it.

If you live with migraine or frequent headaches, you know they are more than "just a headache." They can bring light and sound sensitivity, nausea, fog, and a hangover that lasts for days. Stress, poor sleep, hormonal shifts, skipped meals, and weather changes can all set them off.

Many of those triggers run through the nervous system, which is always scanning for cues of safety or danger. When it spends most of its time in a protective state, whether the braced energy of fight-or-flight or the heavy shutdown of overwhelm, the body has little margin left and small stressors land harder. This does not mean your pain is imaginary. It means your nervous system is working hard to protect you, and it may be able to learn a calmer baseline. Our guide to understanding your nervous system explains these states.

A gentle, passive approach

How IASIS Neurofeedback may help

IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) is a gentle, non-invasive technology that helps the brain and nervous system release stuck stress patterns and become more flexible and regulated. A brief, imperceptible microcurrent signal does the work while you sit back and relax. There is nothing to concentrate on and nothing to relive.

Headaches and migraine are among the conditions that seem to be helped by IASIS Neurofeedback. We say "seem to be helped" on purpose. IASIS does not act on pain directly; it supports the underlying nervous-system dysregulation that symptoms are often signaling, and we do not promise outcomes. What clients often report is feeling calmer, clearer, more grounded, and less reactive.

Our primary service

Where coaching fits

Trauma-Informed Nervous System Coaching is our primary service, and it offers something a passive session cannot: tools you can use on a hard day. Coaching is gentle and collaborative, rooted in Polyvagal Theory. You learn to notice the early signals that your system is ramping up, use simple somatic practices that offer your body cues of safety, and build a steadier baseline.

For people with migraine, that can mean noticing what your body does in the hours before an attack and finding ways to downshift when stress spikes. Coaching is not psychotherapy or counseling, and it is not medical advice about your headaches. It is offered in person or online.

Many clients combine coaching with IASIS MCN, and in-person visits can end with 30 minutes in the far infrared sauna.

Sessions, timing, and cost

What to expect

IASIS sessions are passive. You fill out a short observation sheet, we prep the sites and position five pairs of electrodes, and then you rest. You won't feel the signal, though many people report feeling calmer, more relaxed, alert, and focused by the end.

  • The initial session runs about 45 to 60 minutes and includes intake paperwork.
  • Follow-up sessions typically last about 30 minutes.
  • IASIS MCN is cumulative, not one-and-done, and works best as a series.
  • We offer packages for 12, 20, and 40 sessions. See pricing and packages for current rates.
  • We cannot accept insurance; many clients use HSA or FSA funds.

A few honest words

Is this right for you?

Medical evaluation comes first. If your headaches are new, changing, or severe, or if they follow a head injury, see your physician before exploring any wellness service. Apex NeuroCare works alongside your doctor or neurologist, never instead of them, and we do not give advice about headache medication. We are a wellness practice in a home studio in Apex, NC, serving the Triangle in person and coaching clients online.

This work tends to suit people who:

  • have been evaluated and are following a medical plan, but want support for a stressed, over-alert system;
  • notice that stress, poor sleep, or overwhelm often come before a bad headache day;
  • are looking for a gentle, passive, drug-free option;
  • can sit comfortably in a chair for about 30 minutes (our home studio is not currently wheelchair accessible).
Common questions

Migraine, headaches, and IASIS

Can I receive IASIS Neurofeedback if I take migraine medication?

Yes. IASIS MCN does not interfere with medication. Over a series of sessions some clients become more sensitive to their medication, so we strongly encourage you to consult your prescribing physician about any changes you notice. We do not give medication advice ourselves.

Does IASIS Neurofeedback replace seeing a doctor for my headaches?

No. Migraine and frequent headaches deserve a proper medical evaluation, and any new, sudden, or severe headache needs prompt medical attention. IASIS Neurofeedback and coaching are wellness services that work alongside your medical care, not instead of it.

How many sessions does it take to notice a difference?

Everyone's nervous system is different, so we don't promise a timeline. Many people report feeling calmer even after their first session, but IASIS MCN is cumulative and works best as a series. A typical 12-session schedule runs about twelve weeks. Your free consultation and free intake and trial session are a low-pressure way to begin.

An important note. Apex NeuroCare is a wellness practice, not a medical office. Migraine and headaches are conditions that seem to be helped by IASIS Neurofeedback; we do not claim to resolve them. Our services are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease and are not a substitute for medical or mental-health care, psychotherapy, or counseling. Coaching is not therapy. Always consult your physician about any medical concern, and seek emergency care for a sudden, severe, or unusual headache.
